baby girl

It's blurry because she didn't want me to take a picture of her awesome outfit. :) She's just super cool. :)

Baby girl has had a really rough week and a half. She started out whining and clingy. I thought maybe she was getting teeth or something. Then she got one weird sore on her chin just below her lip. I thought it was maybe a cold sore. Then the next day she had three. We went up to lava anyway. She ended up with a fever and my cousin (Kim, who I am so grateful for ) recognized it as impetigo. (impe...what?) We took her home. (because the kid who was taking care of our dog informed us we had a broken sprinkler that filled up our window well and flooded my preschool) and took her to the dr. They gave us a cream.
Next day it looks worse and her fever isn't going away. Come Sunday it looks like it's tripled and her fever still isn't going away. She's stopped eating and even drinking. :( They add oral antibiotics to it. Monday isn't better but I decide to give the medicine some time. Tuesday if possible it looks worse. And she's lethargic and isn't even interested in ice cream. :(
We take her in again. This time the dr. is concerned because she's lost 3 pounds since sunday. (10%) He wants bloodwork to check for dehydration, switches the antibiotics we are one.
Wed. it starts to look better. She passes her morning weight check (stayed the same, but didn't lose any additional). Ruby had two things going on. The impetigo plus some crazy virus that gave her cankers all over her mouth. (the dr. said they call it the cobblestone look because the gums are so swollen) She would just moan and whimper most of the night......
Well, the impetigo is all but gone. She's got a couple of scabby scabs but doesn't cry or moan at the slightest bump. We can brush her teeth again, and hallelujah she's eating again!!!!!
I don't have any idea what it is like to have a child with a terminal illness, or even one that lasts for a few months or a year. This week and a half almost killed me. She was so miserable, so sad and just wanted to go swimming and play! (we had to miss two family vacations. :( ) There are so many people in this world stronger than me.
I love this sweet child of mine and I've got some major de-spoiling to do. But for now I'll take the spoiled little girl over the miserable one that just laid on my couch for days.

I am so glad she is feeling better. She is such a cutie! I don't think I could handle anything longer than what my kids get either.
